Kneeling on the asphalt
dripping sweat
I dare not look up
to the crumbling city
and face of an angry God.

The Road by Stephen Jarrell Williams
God giving
strength on the straight road,
not veering to one side or the other.
Walking the walk,
running the race,
keeping heads up in sun or rain.
More and more of us
moving in the right direction.
Singing, cheering, joyous weeping...
The great Kingdom of Heaven shining in the distance.

World Waking by Stephen Jarrell Williams
This morning
sunlight,
gentle on the leaves,
yellow-green
breathing
with a slight bend in the breeze,
sparrows singing, flutter of wings,
chirping with a hop from branch to branch,
cool air with a glimmer of mist,
presence of Providence
with the hum of earth,
world waking
with a billion blessings and more,
the landscape, sky scape
knowing the past and present moment,
the future continuance
of light.

Realizing by Stephen Jarrell Williams
Trying to talk
the right talk,
feel
the good force,
work the healing
wonders,
realizing
I'm just one
granule of sand,
waiting
for the unfathomable
sign
that must be.

Hunger by Stephen Jarrell Williams
Robbery
at the grocery store
Tuesday night
parking lot near empty
cop car flashing
a guy in cuffs
screaming and crying
he had no food
I kept my distance
saw he was thin
apple pie
smeared around his mouth
a small crowd gathering
they pushed him into the cop car
he had holes
in the bottom of his shoes
he looked at me
as they drove him away
he could have been me
he could have been everyone
circumstance dictating
hunger eating away his mind.

Lift Me Up by Stephen Jarrell Williams
Oh, God
catch me
in my falling,
don't let me
hit bottom,
lift me up
past circumstances,
lift me up
over the clouds,
star touching....

Someday by Stephen Jarrell Williams
Someday
it will be
over...
touching
stars
like flowers,
taking in
everything
as we need,
knowing
we go on
forever,
ecstasy
spirits
within God.

Over The Abyss by Stephen Jarrell Williams
The differences
widening...
They're coming after us.
We're not saints.
They're not devils, yet.
Run for it.
I'll protect your back.
My collected anger
will topple them for a time.
See you
on the other side...
where we can't lose
our wings.

Flight by Stephen Jarrell Williams
In the lift
of our spirits
reaching up,
world woes
forgotten below,
span of stars
tinkling
to a greater light,
we fly
fly
knowing the way.
